Manifesto · Becoming Planetary
For navigating the planetary age

The responses to the diagnosis
Faced with the planetary age, four narratives aim to organise the world: planetary capitalism driven by the United States, the civilisation-state proposed by China, techno-feudalism held by the technology giants, and a fourth, still minority alternative: the Blue Revolution, the process of transforming humanity toward Homo biospheris. The first three share the assumption that the Biosphere is a backdrop or a resource to exploit. The fourth considers it a living organism of which humanity could become one of the organs.
The planetary age does not begin in a vacuum
Total interdependence has become an irrefutable reality. Every human act has repercussions at the scale of the entire Earth, and every human depends on the state of the entire Earth. Within this frame, four narratives are already competing to lead humanity. The first three are planetary only in their geographic ambition. The fourth starts from a deeper question: what is our species' role within the planetary system that has sustained life for 3.8 billion years?
To distinguish these four narratives, three questions arise: who acts? What becomes of the Biosphere in this narrative? In whose name does this narrative claim legitimacy?
Planetary capitalism
United States
Technological supremacy, open markets, AI as global cognitive infrastructure. Driven by the consumer individual.
Planetary in the spatial sense. No feedback loop toward the Biosphere.
Civilization-state
China
Belt and Road, exportable standards, planning of a recomposed world order. Driven by the historical state.
Planetary in the spatial sense. No feedback loop toward the Biosphere.
Techno-feudalism
Transnational AI actors
Control of models, platforms, satellites. Technical oligarchy without a political body.
Planetary in the spatial sense. No feedback loop toward the Biosphere.
Homo biospheris / Révolution bleue
Humanity as a whole
Planetary collective conscious of belonging to the Biosphere. Organ of a living superorganism 3.8 billion years old.
It is the only narrative that does not treat the Earth as a support. It places humanity back within what sustains it.
Narratives I, II and III can coexist, fight, or succeed one another without the biospheric condition changing. Narrative IV breaks with them on three fundamental dimensions.

Synthesis
Narratives I, II and III are planetary in their geographic reach. Their metabolism exceeds the regenerative capacity of the Earth, and none is constituted to correct this. Narrative IV inscribes humanity within the Biosphere, as an organ within an organism of 3.8 billion years, while preserving the diversity of cultures, nations and bioregions. It is the only structurally viable form of planetarity.

Into action
Four narratives compete to lead humanity, and three share the same premise: the Biosphere is a resource to exploit. These two formats help inspire your organization to position itself for that future.
